Hi, my name is Dan McCarthy. Today we're in Reading, and I'm shooting an Alpha Elite. I'm running it with a carbon blade. I chose these stabilizers because they're actually dynamically created to reduce wind drift. Out here, you encounter a lot of different wind. We shoot in canyons, and this really helps to eliminate basic torque from wind on your riser, and it helps you aim a little easier.
Today, I'm going to give you guys a tip on adjusting your first, second, third axis. It's not just important for tournament shooting, but here at Reading, we encounter several targets like this that are even more extreme for angles. We shoot downhill and uphill to really extreme angles. When you're hunting, it's kind of like shooting out of a tree stand. A lot of people are familiar with sights that are adjustable in this axis, so you're able to adjust your level this way. What's important shooting downhill or uphill, especially in tournaments where we're shooting with an adjustable V-bar like this, it's usually weighted for balance. When you're aiming downhill, that weight is going to turn your riser, and uphill it's going to turn it the opposite way. So it's really important to adjust your third axis. When I talk about third axis, I'm talking about adjusting your scope in this direction, not in this direction. So it's really important to actually shoot that in. There's several different tools that you can use to help get yourself really close, but I definitely would recommend shooting it in to get it really fine-tuned. For hunting, if you're shooting close distance, it's not quite as important, but if you shoot any kind of distance, 30 yards or 40 yards, and you're shooting from a fairly elevated stand, that angle is extreme. It's very important to have a sight that you're able to adjust in the third axis position.
If you don't have a tool to get your axis right, or you want to shoot it in to fine-tune it, what you're going to do is you're going to shoot it downhill. If you can find a scenario like this where you're shooting downhill, or even find something steeper off your roof or something like that for hunting, and you're shooting downhill and you're hitting dead on level, but when you shoot downhill you actually hit to the right, what you want to do for a right-handed shooter is you want to bring your scope towards you. So you're going to adjust it, bring it in, tighten it up. It's really minute increments, don't go too far, just do a little bit at a time and then shoot it. If you get it right downhill, it's generally perfect for uphill. They work with each other, but I still recommend checking. So again, if you're shooting downhill and you hit right, you'd move it towards you. If you're shooting downhill and you hit left, you'd move it away from you.
