So my name is Christopher Jessup. I'm from New York City. I went to the Juilliard School and I've been working with Paris since 2021. I really like to take risks when I compose. I like the spontaneity of that.
So this piece is a five-movement piece for flute, piano, and cello, and each movement represents a different element. This particular movement is representing Earth. I really consider it to be my favorite movement of the piece because it really is very grounded. That's really what it's about. It's really kind of a centering, meditating movement that I view as kind of a palette cleanser for the piece.
I have done a number of reading sessions at some pretty prestigious music schools and universities, reading young composers' works, and I think this is by far the most promising work by a composer in this age category I've seen in a very long time.

We are often called upon to portray the air or birds or sometimes water, and so the fact that Christopher chose my instrument to portray Earth feels really nice to be grounded playing my instrument instead of flying away in the air all the time.
