He leads our industrial business unit, responsible for a lot of our industrial solutions including FDM, which we're here to talk to you about. Rich.

Thanks. So thank you, FY. This is an incredibly exciting day for all of us here at Stratasys. We started this project back in 2018 in collaboration with a lot of our key customers who challenged us: how do we take FDM to the next level for manufacturing applications? So we put a lot of work in this solution to really improve the throughput, the uptime, and the cost per part. And we're going to learn all about that here at today's launch. So from the original inventors of FDM, we're very excited to bring to you the next generation of FDM built for manufacturing. And to kick us off with the official unveiling, I'd like to introduce the founding father of FDM, Scott Crump.

All right, thank you, Scott. Very exciting to see the machine for the first time live here publicly at Formnext. And to tell us a little bit more about what makes this new platform so innovative for manufacturing, I'd like to bring up our product manager, Chris Ruland. Chris.

So Chris, we talk about throughput and really improving FDM in terms of throughput. We're talking about 2x speeds from what we've seen today. What enables that with this new technology?

The engineers at Stratasys did a fantastic job increasing the throughput. When we came to them, we said, what can we do to make this thing as fast as possible for FDM? So they started with a brand new gantry design using linear motors that allow it to maximize acceleration and maximize print speeds. Then we came up with a brand new extruder design which increases the flow rate of material as we're printing. In addition to that, this machine comes standard with an automatic tool changer with four pre-loaded extruders. When we switch from model to support, a tool change takes less than 15 seconds. It's very fast, very efficient, very repeatable. And all these extruders are aligned for maximum precision using a new auto-calibration technology. So when you hit play, all four tools are calibrated automatically.

Speed, yeah, that's fantastic. And the automatic tool changer is really incredible. We also talk about uptime and how important uptime is for our customers in manufacturing. Talk a little bit about what we're doing here to really improve uptime.

Absolutely. This design was built for manufacturing. In order to work in a manufacturing environment, the machine has to be reliable. We want to increase uptime. So in addition to maximizing the speed of the printer, we've minimized the non-print time. The extruders are easy to use, they're easy to load. But we also have with the four extruders up here, it opens up the capability of redundant extruders. When one extruder goes down, the tool changer can grab a new extruder and continue printing. The auto-calibration being off the system means if an extruder were to fail, you could take one out, load a new one, and calibrate it while the part is still in there and continue your build. Not only that, this machine was built for the future. We have sensors throughout the entire machine with over 428 data streams of data coming through our MTConnect. We can monitor the machine, run it through our MTConnect system, and there's now the ability to do predictive maintenance. We know an extruder is going to fail before it actually does. So now you're staying ahead of the game. And in addition to that, minimizing your... increasing your uptime means larger spools and an onboard dryer. So when you put in a spool, these large spools are 4,100 cubic centimeters that are loaded into this machine, and then we can dry it online. So we have dry material, increases your part quality, and overall is better uptime because you have to change them less often. Each spool bay is tied to an extruder, with three bays being model, one being support. We can run for over 12,000 cubic centimeters of material before you have to change. Significant improvement in uptime.

Yeah. So throughput, uptime, and then cost per part also a big part of the equation of helping us win more applications and manufacturing. Talk about that.

Yeah, going into manufacturing, we wanted to open more applications, and to do that, you have to reduce your cost per part. And that is done through increased throughput with up to two times the speed of other FDM printers, 50% more reliability—that's reduced scrap, better part quality, more acceptable parts—better uptime, less labor. We have auto-calibration, larger spools, that means you're touching the machine less often. You add all of these things up, you have a lower cost per part, a lower cost of operation, a better business case, and more applications that fall in line with FDM.

So we're very excited to have the machine. The voice of the customer has rang through everything that we brought to you guys that we wanted fixed or that we were having issues with. You guys knocked it out of the park. Sorry, you guys knocked it out of the park. It is an amazing machine. We were impressed with the speed right off the bat, but just the amount of technologies that's in it. With the sensors, we use a lot of MTConnect data, so for us to see that coming out of the stream and being a positive outcome for us, because that's what predictive maintenance is, one thing we're looking at for manufacturing. The other thing is the larger spools. We're excited about that. We're excited about the larger spools, not having to build over the weekend anymore. We can build it and didn't come in. I used to have to come in and feed the machines, we called it 'feed the beasts.' So we're super excited about that. And I mean, I was so excited, you guys are going to have to take the disappointment. I was the first one to buy one, so my PO is already in. So I've actually bought the machine. So I was pretty excited about that.

Because outside you see the use cases, the applications. This industry is not about moving boxes, it's about solving problems to our customers. And you solve the problems by having a full solution, tailored solution by application, by use cases. So outside part of this booth is all about solving problems to our customers. The inside is the technology that supports it. And if we will remember it, we will flourish, we will thrive as an industry. So what do we have here? We have five technologies, we have dozens of applications, we have new software platform, and we have the largest portfolio of materials that help us to open new applications. This is the secret sauce of this industry. To close, I want to share with you a personal perspective. I don't know what about you, I am inspired from this industry. We are facing some tough times because we are not there yet. But our value and the value that we are giving to our customers in specific applications is unmatched. We just need to go all the way. So I'm inspired by the industry, I'm inspired by Stratasys, and we are committed to make additive work for our customers. That's why we are here. So let's enjoy it. The food is there.
