About Subhash Chandra

Dr. Subhash Chandra, chairman of Zee Entertainment, has continued hosting his motivational talk show "SACH," where he has addressed topics including relationships, self-coaching, and the role of religion in society. In a June 2026 episode recorded at Zakir Husain Delhi College, Chandra discussed relationship-building, stating that "relationships are built without any give-and-take and such relationships last long." He also said that to build a relationship with someone, one must "come to their level" and cited the example of communicating with a driver in simple language. In other episodes, Chandra distinguished between "action" (goal-oriented, thoughtful work) and "activity" (routine existence), and argued that talent is inborn and cannot be transferred, contrary to what some coaching programs claim. He defined a good coach as someone who "only brings out what is inside you" rather than teaching new knowledge. Chandra also expressed views on religion, stating that "humanity is being divided by the narrow thinking of religion" and that most killings worldwide have religion as a basic factor. He described Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity as "ideologies or ways of worship, not dharma," asserting that "dharma is universal." On political matters, Chandra criticized opposition to the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, saying that while he accepts opposition to his government or party, "do not oppose the Char Dham Yatra," calling it a matter of dharma, the state's prosperity, and employment. He also encouraged service to the poor, suggesting that donating a percentage of one's income leads to household happiness and positive energy.

Namaskar. The topic we are going to discuss today is something that has surely crossed your mind many times, and you have also answered it yourself. Let's see a little introduction about what we have thought on this subject. Please watch this audio-visual.
Who am I? What is this life? What is the purpose of my life? What is my identity? What is the goal of my life? We often face such questions. These questions may sound easy, but in reality, their answers are not easy. To know the answers to these questions, it is necessary to first know yourself. To listen to the voice of your conscience. Because this is not a question, but an answer in itself. Every attempt to challenge yourself is an effort to know yourself.
Yes. What did you think? What comes to your mind? I ask you this question. When you are asked this question, who are you? What will you answer?
A
Audience Member3:09
Sir, I think I am a learner. Since childhood, I have been learning something. Sometimes learning to eat, sometimes learning to walk, learning to speak. I am studying in MBA now, learning that too. And in the future, I will learn the work in the job. So for me, I am a learner.
S
Subhash Chandra3:25
You are a learner.
A
Audience Member3:26
Yes, sir.
S
Subhash Chandra3:26
You will not call your name yourself. What is your name?
A
Audience Member3:30
Sir, my name is Shraddha Datta.
S
Subhash Chandra3:32
Shraddha Datta. Why don't you say that I am Shraddha Datta? The name is given only to fulfill practicality. Society gave the name, parents gave the name. It is a name in the form of practicality. If the name were the only truth, then at some time, as she said 'learner', when you progress in sports, you are called an athlete of so-and-so college. At that time, you are an athlete. Sometimes when you get good marks and a scholarship, you are a man who passed with distinction. It changes in different places. But when we talk about who am I, it is very important to do self-analysis first. It is very important to understand yourself. The path to understand yourself can also be spirituality. Education can also be a means to understand yourself. And in life, we talk about who am I. This question will continue throughout life. But from the beginning, there is also a change every time. Attitude also changes. During that time, we learn a lot and the right question is found many times. Sometimes it is not found. But I feel that a regular process continues, and for this, it is very important to inspect within yourself and we have to do all this in a regular way.
Yes. Who am I?
A
Audience Member4:58
Sir, whenever I think about this question, like if I look at my backstory, since childhood, we have big desires. We used to dream big. But as we grow up, we start compromising ourselves by looking at the surroundings. This is my thinking, that the majority of people are doing this.
S
Subhash Chandra5:18
You are a kind of a collection of desires.
A
Audience Member5:22
Yes, sir.
S
Subhash Chandra5:23
Yes?
A
Audience Member5:24
Yes.
S
Subhash Chandra5:24
That is what you are.
A
Audience Member5:25
Sir, yes.
S
Subhash Chandra5:26
And and and later on, what did you say?
A
Audience Member5:29
Sir, as we grow up, we start adapting to the surroundings. But sir, all the entrepreneurs and motivational speakers we watch, one thing is always said: dream big, dream big, dream big. And after that, you become a dreamer.
S
Subhash Chandra5:43
Yes. Good.
A
Audience Member5:46
My name is Deependra Chandra Jha. This name is given to me. But actually, who I am is not this body. I am not this body. I am the part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of God. In a way, I am the soul of the Supreme Soul. I am derived from that.
S
Subhash Chandra6:02
Very good. Sit down. Okay. So now, once when King Janak went to fight a battle, he was badly defeated there. He was injured. He reached a state of dying. Then his eyes opened. He called his guru. He said, 'Maharaj, Bhagwan, I had such a dream. In the dream, this happened to me. So was that true, or what I am seeing now is the truth?' So, this is a truth that we humans live in three states. One state is what we are now. Awakened. We are awake. At this time, I, Dr. Subhash Chandra, am giving you a lecture. I am doing the DSC show. You are listening to me. You are students. You know what you are doing in today's life. You are a teacher. Someone is something, someone is something. In this awakened stage, we know what we are. Right? Another state in which we live is the dream stage. When we sleep, we dream. A billionaire sees himself as a beggar. So at that time, when he is in that dream state, that is his reality. The reality of that time is the same in the dreaming state. And the third is deep sleep, in which he is in a way like a corpse. At that time, he is not dreaming. Nothing is happening. The body is sleeping as if a dead person is sleeping. So these three states of human being are considered. Understand this in any book, in anything, and this happens to you. This is a practical thing. I am not saying that I am talking about scriptures or that God told me this, or a guru told me, so I am saying this. This happens with you, with me, with everyone, doesn't it? Apart from these three states, do we live in any fourth state?
A
Audience Member8:41
Sir, yogis attain it. What do yogis attain? Trans, meditative state, what do you call it?
S
Subhash Chandra8:54
In Hindi, it is called Turiya Avastha. Turiya Avastha. They say that when a man reaches beyond this reality of the mind, he reaches that state. It is called the fourth state. But in that state, our senses stop working. It is beyond the senses. So, therefore, while being alive, apart from these three, there is no fourth state. So, if we take this point forward, as I said earlier, you all have taken many names, some said soul, some said karma yogi, one who does karma, some said something. So, if we see, we keep changing our role everywhere, at every time. And as I told you in last week's show, if you think deeply, who feels pain? When there is pain in the body, any kind of pain, whether it is swelling, or you have run a lot, or you didn't sleep at night, and you are working that day, the body starts paining. So who feels that pain? I feel it. Who is that 'I'? That 'I' who is it? We have come back to the same point again. Come, tell us. Mind in our body. Yes, mind in body. Our mind in the body feels that pain. But just like our six senses, the six doors of touch, the reactions we have to the things that happen on them, actually, the science that awakens, that hears the thing and says something has come, that science is a form of 'I'. 'I' means this body of flesh and blood, this is not 'I'. And in the dream stage too, when you go, that is also a real state. Your dreaming mind feels that too. In practical life, which is for us worldly people, we have to accept that what we want to become, how we want to be known, we will do karma accordingly, and we will be known accordingly. For that, we have to determine our goal and keep working on it. So karma also comes in between, your choices also come in between, and all the other things you all have said from different places in different ways are included in it. If we look at it from a spiritual perspective, only our science, which is of the six senses, reacts to what happens to us. That is called 'I'. Where you start doing good deeds, start having the feeling of giving to people, where compassion awakens in your mind, like you must have seen in last week's show, a Gupta ji, an 85-year-old man, distributing goods to the poor in front of All India Medical Institute. He gives food, does everything. When he went into that feeling, my 'I' was finished. I feel that in such people, in such individuals, a change happens. In the same way, if you see, today among us is a personality of the same kind. Shri Ravi Kalra. He is called the No Honking Man of India. He put stickers on over 1 lakh cars in just one week that say 'Don't Honk', 'No Honking'.
Before that, let's see an audio-visual of how he started this.
N
Narrator13:51
Work so hard in silence that success makes the noise. Ravi Kalra, the man known as the No Honking Man of India. Ravi Kalra, who spent his childhood in financial hardship, became a martial arts instructor at a young age and traveled to about 47 countries thanks to his sport. Comparing with other countries, Ravi realized how noise pollution is becoming a big challenge for India.
R
Ravi Kalra14:42
By the grace of God, I got the opportunity to travel to around 47 countries. So in whichever Western country I went, I never saw horns honking. On the contrary, honking is seen as a crime there. So I used to be very worried about why this horn is so misused in our country. So I then took a vow to educate people. So since 2008, this never-ending campaign of ours is going on.
N
Narrator15:13
Ravi Kalra has taken up the challenge to eradicate noise pollution from the root and is now running a campaign against it.
R
Ravi Kalra15:21
So I wrote many slogans. Started putting stickers on the back bumpers of cars. On one sticker, I wrote 'Do Not Honk'. And in many places, I wrote 'Do Not Honk If You Love Peace'. In many places, I wrote 'Dear Uncle, Can't You Drive Without Honking'. So that somehow people agree that we should not honk without reason.
N
Narrator15:46
You know that the development of the country is not possible until the difficulties standing as a challenge in front of the country are fought. You are moving forward by making your purpose your direction so that the country can become happy and prosperous along with being developed.
S
Subhash Chandra16:14
When did this thought come to your mind? How did it come that you became the No Honking Man of India?
R
Ravi Kalra16:21
Actually, sir, I started this campaign in 2008 and absolutely selflessly. I have traveled to many countries in the past. Although I was from a very poor family, I achieved all my targets with great honesty and hard work. I traveled to around 47 countries, but in all the countries I went to, I never saw horns honking. So I used to be very worried that the unnecessary honking in our country...
S
Subhash Chandra16:55
You are missing something. When a person gets used to living in noise and you suddenly give him a peaceful environment, he will say, 'Hey, what happened? Something is missing.'
R
Ravi Kalra17:06
Yes, sir, absolutely. I realized that the definition of honking in our country has become very bad. It has become so bad that we don't even give way to an ambulance. And in foreign countries, if you honk, the five cars in front of you will give you way. They think there is a patient in your car, so you honked and you need the right to move forward. So I felt I should do something.
S
Subhash Chandra17:32
But what will you call it? When I am celebrating my birthday at home, having a party. I have invited 100-200 friends. A loud orchestra is playing. The sound is going through the whole neighborhood. What will you call that?
R
Ravi Kalra17:46
Sir, technically, the Supreme Court has also made norms for it. There is a special time zone. You can spread such noise only within that. Like in temples, mosques, gurudwaras, or in parties.
S
Subhash Chandra17:58
No one believes in them, right? They should believe, that's why the country is in a bad state right now, that we don't believe in the law. Ultimately, you who are sitting at home watching this DSC show, I want to tell you that it is we and you who spread pollution in the environment, not that there is no law in this country, there is no system. And it will come to your and my mind too, when we hear a good sound from pressure, we also feel bad. So why do we do it again and again? That's why what did our country's Prime Minister say? In every speech, he says that until the 125 crore people of this country set their own goal for something, the country cannot improve on the government's trust.
What question would you like to ask Mr. Kalra?
A
Audience Member18:56
Sir, hearing about your work felt very good. We youth got inspiration from it. But where do you get the finance etc. to do all this? Basically?
R
Ravi Kalra19:03
Well, you have asked the most difficult question. But yes, the answer to this is that what is happening with us is that if you serve with selfless devotion to God, then natural forces will strengthen you. That strength is with us too. Our organization is recognized by the government. But you will be sad to know. Unfortunately, we have never received any government money to date. And despite that, the expense is in lakhs every day. But if you serve selflessly, people come and help automatically. So it is the same with us. Some people have made monthly pledges, and the service continues. And we are working day and night. If the intention to work is good, then there is no shortage of money and resources. Mr. Kalra is a big example of this. Your organization is also there. After doing all this, did you feel something more inside that who are you?
Yes, absolutely. I understood a lot, learned a lot. This is what I understood, that we are all messengers of God. Because if you look at the comparison, the human brain does not match any other creature. It is the ultimate. So I feel that God gave us the ultimate brain so that we could do something for the welfare of animals, plants, and humanity and our universe. That is why we were sent here, and we should serve.
S
Subhash Chandra20:34
Very good. His point is that look, whatever animal it is, a cow will eat grass, it will be vegetarian. A lion will eat non-veg. So their mind, the mind of animals and all beings, is predetermined. Their computer is pre-programmed and fixed. They cannot do anything beyond that. But it is the human mind that can think. It can recognize good and evil. It can act on it. Compassion can awaken in it. Hatred can also awaken. Both awaken. What would you like to say to the viewers sitting at my house watching this show?
R
Ravi Kalra21:21
I just want to request with folded hands that we should all serve. This will give you a lot of positive energy. Your sorrows and pains will be removed. You will also get very good sleep. Your enemies will also stay away from you, and whatever work of yours is not getting done will also start getting done. You will also get connectivity with God, and the path of service is what takes you towards salvation.
S
Subhash Chandra21:44
Very good. Sir, thank you very much for coming to my show.
R
Ravi Kalra21:51
Thank you. Thank you very much.
S
Subhash Chandra21:55
I don't believe that I am the only motivator in the DSC show or that I am alone. We have many more motivators in this country. So, among us today, I have invited a guest. Sanchi Soni ji is a mountaineer. She is among us. I would like to call her to talk to you. Welcome, Sanchi.
A
Audience Member22:26
Welcome.
S
Subhash Chandra22:27
You are the first from the country to reach Mount Elbrus, climb Australia's 10 highest peaks, North America's highest peaks at -40 degrees, and pull 16 kg of weight for 22 days. Can you look... does she look like that? I don't think she looks like that to me. Where do you get this energy from?
S
Sanchi Soni22:52
So everything is mind, actually. You know, everything is mind. Yeah. Everything is in your head. Yeah. So, you have to believe yourself that yes, you are capable of doing that. And I think also apart from that, you have to do a lot of hard work. So, which you obviously cannot escape. Hard work, you can never run away from it if you want better results.
S
Subhash Chandra23:18
Come, your questions for Sanchi.
A
Audience Member23:22
My question was that how do you get motivated? Like this is a very tough task you have to do, climbing mountains in such low temperature. So how do you get motivated from your family, your friends, and so on?
S
Sanchi Soni23:35
Well, I really think when you talk about motivation, first of all, if you are doing something that you love, motivation will come automatically. Secondly, I really think family and the society, they play a very important role. Because if there is family support and strength, then you automatically think somewhere in your mind. Because when I climb mountains, it also happens that for a month I cannot talk to my mother. Cannot talk to my father. So my mother is definitely worried because so many avalanches and earthquakes are happening these days. Then my younger sister comes and tells my mother, 'Mummy, no news is good news. So just relax.' And then when I suddenly come down, I call my mother, then she is so happy, 'How was it? How was all this?' You know, so it's like this.
A
Audience Member24:26
Ma'am, my question is that you said right now, everything is mind. So I read a line, 'To change your life, you must change yourself first.' So at a practical level, what are the real steps and what are the challenges you faced?
S
Sanchi Soni24:40
Well, this is absolutely correct. Look, there are so many people who think, 'I will change the country, I will change this.' I feel the first change starts from our home. Whether it is equality, gender equality, or anything. If you can correct your surrounding environment, then you can think at a bigger level. Because when you face challenges, slowly in life, then you will learn. Failures are inevitable in life. They will come. You cannot stop them. But the most learning you will get will be from your failures. More than your success. So the challenges that I faced were obviously before any climb. Like now I am headed to climb the 7000-meter Mount Satopanth, which is in the Garhwal Himalayas. It's one of the most technical peaks in the Himalayas. So for that, I have to prepare, train myself. Now I am in my MA final year. I am also working. I also have to dedicate 3 hours every day for my training, which is 10 kilometers running, swimming. Because to achieve anything, there has to be a plan that you have to follow. And also discipline. Discipline in life is a must. It doesn't happen like this, 'Oh, I missed today, I missed that.' I have read many books of Swami Vivekananda, and I would like to share one of his quotes with you. When you take an aim, dedicate everything to that. Every nerve, mind, body, everything to that. And see.
S
Subhash Chandra26:10
Very good. Very good. There will be nothing that will seem impossible to you in life.
Apart from your family, whose advice do you take? If you get stuck somewhere, get stuck somewhere, is there any teacher or someone? Whose advice do you take? If you get entangled somewhere, in the mind, in the mind, in something else. Sometimes, the quicker you want to reach the mountain, you couldn't reach. Sometimes negativity comes to the mind. Sometimes you get tired. There, you feel in your mind sometimes that, 'I wish I had reached the mountain by now. I am so tired now, I feel like resting.' If such a situation happens, then what do you think?
S
Sanchi Soni26:56
Well, for now, this definitely happens because this is normal. You are in any sport, you will get tired. But that excitement and that willpower, that I have to go and wave my tricolor flag up there. That is such a strong willpower. So all these difficulties you face don't seem that big. And actually, you know, I have become a character of such a type that I don't enjoy anything now without difficulties.
S
Subhash Chandra27:24
Oh, like difficulty... difficulty has become a way of life for you.
S
Sanchi Soni27:31
Absolutely.
S
Subhash Chandra27:32
Come, one more question for you.
A
Audience Member27:33
Excuse me, ma'am. Ma'am, when did you start this career and how?
S
Sanchi Soni27:40
So I was seven when I started mountaineering with my father. And then when I was 19, I got the opportunity to climb Mount Everest in 2013. And then later on, I kept like I kept on getting the opportunities. And also I had this thing in mind. One more thing, mountains call. I feel in front of nature, you are always so small, so you are always bowing down with respect. The locals, whoever your support teams are, motivating each other, we reach the top.
S
Subhash Chandra28:11
We say the same thing about mountains, as Sanchi said, the sea also calls in the same way. Absolutely. Those who do scuba diving under the sea, they also realize there how people are living in harmony, how everything is going on in harmony, like a symphony.
A
Audience Member28:32
If we tell our parents that we want to do this thing, they just say that yes, you focus on your studies, do this later, do this some other time. Sir, we don't get that type of support. So how can we manage for that thing?
S
Sanchi Soni28:44
See, I really think, first of all, when you are in multiple things, like one of my friends shared this fact that you actually develop new brain cells, which is very good for you. And secondly, regarding like about the studies, I think I was the best student for three years. I was good at studies and also in my co-curricular activities. But this too, without the support of my teachers, wouldn't have been possible. So, I think teachers and friends and everyone have played an important role. And parents, look, I feel things are changing these days. There is positivity. Parents have learned that physical fitness is very important in their life. Because the first happiness is of being disease-free. If you are fit, you will be happy. You will be mentally healthy. And then you will be able to focus on your work also. So I think you can set your goals slowly. And it is not necessary that you will find your passion all at once. There will be times, once, once some setback will come, once some failure will come. But ultimately, that inner call, which excites you, listen to it. It will take you to your main purpose.
S
Subhash Chandra29:51
One more thing I would like to add to what Sanchi said. What she said is a very valid point. When you see, today the human brain, the more we use it, perhaps we don't even use 10% of our brain's capacity. If we do this, develop our mind, use it more, like she said, my brain, brain cells opened up inside it. So this will happen with you. Yes, what is your message to my viewers sitting at home?
S
Sanchi Soni30:23
Well, for viewers, I think you know there is nothing which can stop you. You just have to follow your inner call and just give your 100%. Whatever you do, do it with your whole heart, with your body, mind, and wealth. And I think karma is the biggest karma yoga, as it is called. Karma is such a thing. It will work as a meditation for you people. Actually, you don't need to look for motivation anywhere. Actually, the biggest motivation is you yourself. You just have to listen to yourself. I think these days in the market, in society, you will get a lot of cluttered information. But there is a consciousness of ours that will always speak to you, even if you do something wrong. It will always give you a voice. Start listening to it. It will become so strong. And you have the infinite power.
S
Subhash Chandra31:12
Very good. Thank you very much, Sanchi. Thank you very much for coming here and motivating our people here and those sitting at home watching you. Thank you. All the best.
What is today's learning? Who would like to tell?
A
Audience Member31:34
Sir, as you said at the start of the show, it is a very vast concept. You are not clear that sometimes you are a mother, sometimes a daughter-in-law, sometimes a son, sometimes a patriot. Sir, I was sitting here thinking for so long, where should we start? Should we start from our childhood, who am I? In your last show, you said to learn from your present. So sir, should I start from the present, who am I? Or should I think about my future, what I can become? So sir, I am not clear about this.
S
Subhash Chandra32:05
This is a very good question of yours. Very good. As I said before, first of all, what do you want to become? How do you want to know yourself, introduce yourself to people? Decide that and start working for it. And where to start working from? By living in the present. What are you at this time? At this time, you are a learner. That is what you are. When the question is asked, who am I? I am a learner at this moment. This is the fact of this moment. Okay? Then, when you leave from here, you are playing a game. You please concentrate in that. At that time, you are a sportsman. You should remind yourself that at the moment, my dharma is to play this game. Work with devotion towards this game. When you are interacting with your parents at home. There, you are a son. How to behave with your parents, how to deal with them, you have to know that. At that time, you are working as a son. So the answer to 'who am I' will be different in different states. But you have to learn to live in the present. What am I at this time? Don't try to search beyond that. If you talk about searching beyond that, you will go into the realm of spirituality. There is time for that, in my opinion. Yes, what did you learn just now?
A
Audience Member33:42
If ten of us also get together, like society's development is not happening, poverty, we keep talking about poverty, but resolving poverty is not such a big task if we take the initiative ourselves. I agree with you. If you teach one child one work, then he will learn and he will get motivation again. He will not go to beg again. I want to share this thing.
S
Subhash Chandra34:03
I agree with you. I agree with you 100%. Thank you very much.
A
Audience Member34:07
Sir, first of all, your life experience, your autobiography has always been an inspiration for me. Sir, as you just said, who am I? To discover ourselves, we have to discover our goals, our objectives. But sir, sometimes in life, we have short-run goals and long-run goals. Sir, I have experienced that while chasing the short-run, the long-run was left behind. While chasing the long-run, a problem came in the short-run. Sir, what should be done so that both are managed, or excel in one, or what should be done so that both things happen well?
S
Subhash Chandra34:35
Look, as Sanchi said, when you do something at one time, give it 100% to that. Don't confuse yourself. But sir, if I... short-term, long-term, long-short, short-shot, don't go into this. Today, I have to decide what my first stop is. From this station, I will leave. After this, what is my next stop? When you reach that stop, and when you have to move forward from there, then decide where to go next. So there will be no confusion. If there is no confusion, then you will not get this dilemma. So the conclusion of today's talk is that you are different at different times. You cannot know yourself by the name of any one entity. This is my belief. And secondly, the more you have the feeling of giving and knowing, as far as you have, like you did by seeing Mr. Kalra, your feeling will be clearer about yourself and in recognizing yourself. And thirdly, as Sanchi said, whatever you do, do it 100%. Don't do it 99.99%. So this is today's conclusion. And whatever there is, it is within you. Don't look for it outside. Look within you. You will find everything within you. You will keep finding it there. I would like to call Nand Kishore Garg, Chairperson of this university, to say a few words to my audiences and to all of you as well.
N
Nand Kishore Garg36:25
Be simple, be straightforward, keep the desire to learn. The paths will open up automatically. And you have just seen two examples of this. The third is our own brother, Subhash ji. So I understand that there should be a role model in life. Earlier, when we used to study in schools, in the last 20 years, role models have only become Shah Rukh Khan and this Khan and that Khan, and we have forgotten everyone else. I understand that through the medium of media, to revive the values, and how today in this one show, I saw Subhash ji touching the feet of an elder. So this value, if it awakens again through this show, I pray to God to give Subhash ji more strength, more capability, so that his reach can be to all 700 crore people, as he just said, 7.6 billion. And this whole world becomes like a family, our concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is fulfilled. I once again thank the entire Maharaja Agrasen family from my side, because they are also a part of it. But still, I thank the entire team very much. Jai Hind.
S
Subhash Chandra37:38
With this, thank you all very much.
