About Kevin Knight
Kevin Knight, executive chairman of Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings, has spoken about the company's operations and the trucking industry in several interviews and company messages. In 2022, he discussed the merger of Knight and Swift, describing it as a "match made in heaven" and stating that the combined company would be the largest truckload carrier in North America. He has emphasized the importance of trust between the two companies and has said that his goal is to improve Swift's financial strength while providing growth opportunities for Knight. Knight has also expressed his view that autonomous trucks will not replace drivers in the foreseeable future, stating he will "always fight for our driving associates to be in the cab" and envisioning drivers' roles evolving to be "much like a pilot."
Knight has frequently praised professional truck drivers, calling them "the hardest working, most patriotic group of individuals" and stating that the economy depends on their work. He has expressed gratitude for drivers' sacrifices and said the company will never take them for granted. In a 2022 appearance at the Global AI Summit, Knight discussed artificial intelligence, defining it as tasks where machines are approaching human-level abilities and stating that he does not see artificial general intelligence coming soon. Separately, in a 2021 interview about a personal Airbnb business, Knight described building a portfolio of 12 homes through referrals and low customer acquisition costs.

Can you describe the nature of the joint ownership transaction and give us a summary of what that's going to look like?

Well, first off, this is probably the biggest news in the truckload industry, maybe ever. I mean, maybe since deregulation. And I remember when we left Swift, that was big news in our industry, but this is much bigger and much more important. What we have an opportunity to do here is, under common ownership, to execute the two best trucking companies in the industry in a way where we work together to make sure Swift's the best it can be and Knight is the best it can be. Both these businesses have great people, and both have things they're better at than each other. That's what gets me excited. I think of this transaction as being able to take the best practices of two amazing organizations and have both of them advantage those best practices. I am so excited. We're going to be the biggest truckload carrier by a wide margin in North America. Now, I've got to be honest with you, Debra, that's more important to probably Jerry than it is to myself, Gary, or some of my other family members. But we have this opportunity to be the largest truckload carrier in North America and yet produce the best financial returns of any truckload carrier in North America. That's what I get excited about. We have set an opportunity to be so important to our customer base. We want to do a good job for all of our customers. I'm also so excited for our drivers. When I think of our driving associates, they get to fly the flag they chose. The drivers that work for Knight work at Knight because that's where they want to work. The drivers that work at Swift work at Swift because that's what they chose. We're just going to help make that better. The opportunities are going to be unbelievable. And then we got to talk about everybody else. All of us that get to come to work every day, do our customers a good job, and support our drivers in a positive way. We're all going to get better, smarter, and do good things for the industry. I'm excited for Knight and Swift, and I hope everybody else can be excited too. It's going to be really fun.
