About Donald Trump
President Trump attended the G7 summit in France in June 2026, where he held press conferences and bilateral meetings with world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Trump stated that on June 14 the U.S. reached a memorandum of understanding with Iran that he said would end the current conflict, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. He described the agreement as a "wall against a nuclear weapon" and contrasted it with the previous JCPOA, which he called a "road to a nuclear weapon." Trump said the Strait of Hormuz was partially open and would be fully open by June 19, and he claimed oil prices were dropping and the stock market was rising as a result of the deal. He also said he had spoken with leaders of Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Turkey about the agreement.
During the summit, Trump also addressed other topics. He said he had conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the war in Ukraine, describing it as more difficult than expected. Trump discussed U.S. investment figures, stating that over $19 trillion was being invested in the United States. He commented on domestic issues including voter ID requirements, crime reduction in several U.S. cities, and the "Save America Act." Trump also referenced a UFC event held at the White House and joked with reporters about taking credit for the Iran deal or blaming Vice President JD Vance if it did not work out.

On Iran, Mr. President, on Iran, how confident are you that there will be a signing this weekend? Because you have come close to sealing a deal, and at the last minute it has fallen apart.
D
Donald Trump0:18
It will be soon. Maybe this weekend.
R
Reporter0:23
And has the premier approved this deal?
D
Donald Trump0:25

R
Reporter0:30
And is the United States going to immediately lift the blockade when it is signed?
D
Donald Trump0:34
Yes, that is part of the deal. They will have oil prices drop like a rock.
R
Reporter0:42
Have you talked to Greenland on the discussions about the nuclear material and nuclear negotiations?
D
Donald Trump0:48
Yes, nobody is getting close to it because it is buried under a mountain. Those B-2 bombers...
R
Reporter0:58
Has Iran committed to not pursuing any nuclear weapon, or will there be more negotiations?
D
Donald Trump1:06
They will not have a nuclear weapon. They have agreed to that. That's the whole reason, a big part of the reason.
R
Reporter1:13
Is that in the agreement?
D
Donald Trump1:14
They will not only have they will not purchase or develop in any way, shape, or form a nuclear weapon. They will not have a nuclear weapon.

You have said before that Iran and the United States were close to a deal, it has not happened yet. Why are you so convinced that this time it's different?
D
Donald Trump1:33
Because they have taken a pounding. They have taken a pounding like very few people could take, and they want to make a deal a lot more than I do. And we could have done it the other way, I guess, but it would have taken longer. They got hit very hard recently. And I don't like to do things that way, but I thought it was necessary. It is a great deal for the United States and for the Middle East, ultimately great for Iran because they will be able to build up their country. I really believe it is a regime change because I find these people to be much more rational than the people that are no longer with us. We knocked out the first team of leadership, the second team of leadership, and the third. A different group, a different level. I think it is a frankly smarter level and a level that has reason. They have approved the deal, everybody has approved the deal. We will now get it finished up and hopefully that will be done. They will not have a nuclear weapon. We can talk about fishing, there won't be anybody to fish. They will probably be affected too, we won't let that happen. Iran will essentially, most important paragraph to me, Iran will in no way, shape, or form have a nuclear weapon or purchase a nuclear weapon.

The agreement when it comes to this said it was just a concept of that agreement. Is this essentially setting the stage?
D
Donald Trump3:06
It's a very strong memorandum of understanding. It's a little conceptual, but it is something that will get done. And if it doesn't get done for any reason, which I can't imagine it not happening, they want to sign it as much as I do or more. I would say they want to sign it more, maybe a lot more. It is a great detailed memorandum of understanding. Also agreed to by many other countries that have great influence.
