About Shay Rishoni
Shay Rishoni, cofounder of Eyecontrol, was diagnosed with ALS in 2011 and is now completely paralyzed, communicating only through eye movements. He heads the Prize for Life Association and leads an interdisciplinary team focused on improving healthcare provider bedside manner. Rishoni stated that he believes it is his responsibility to do all he can to find a cure for ALS, saying, "if not me then who, and if not now then when." Rishoni and his team developed the ALS Mobile Analyzer, an application that allows patients to conduct tests at home involving tasks like drawing, finger tapping, speech, and movement. He described the platform as monitoring daily functions of ALS patients "objectively, accurately and frequently" and noted that the algorithm analyzes data to predict disease progression. Rishoni said that ALS clinicians lack data on how the disease progresses day to day and that the application addresses this gap. He also commented that technological advances now allow "everyday people" to build applications, a capability he said was unavailable a few years ago.
