Daniel Cooley, Senior Vice President of Technology & Product Development and Chief Technology Officer at Silicon Labs, has been active in industry events and interviews discussing the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the semiconductor industry. In a November 2024 discussion with Ethernet co-inventor Bob Metcalfe, Cooley moderated a conversation on technology scaling, standards, and the history of networking. In an August 2024 interview, Cooley stated that Silicon Labs and other silicon vendors are building "AI-forward and AI-first" products, predicting that edge nodes will become the primary location for AI inference rather than relying solely on data centers. He also noted that the embedded market is ripe for a consolidated platform play, with winners likely determined within the next five years. Cooley has frequently addressed the increasing role of government regulation in the semiconductor industry. At embedded world North America in October 2024, he remarked that the tech industry has "spent the last 50 years not regulated" and is now facing regulation in security, AI, and geopolitics, including barriers on data sharing with China.
