From Grab’s AI push: CEO Anthony Tan wants to build a ‘cyborganisation’ · · The Business Times
“As the founder CEO, I said, 'I'm going to stop all business as usual and just have 9 weeks from CEO all the way to customer service agent, everyone work on generative AI tools, experiments, products.' It was great because it gave us a mindshift of being AI-first. We continue to believe that AI won't replace people one for one, but people with AI will replace people without AI.”
On , Ping Tan, Co-Founder, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at Grab Holdings, spoke about artificial intelligence during Grab’s AI push: CEO Anthony Tan wants to build a ‘cyborganisation’ on The Business Times.
In a May 2026 interview, Grab co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan discussed the company’s focus on artificial intelligence, describing his ambition to build a “cyborganisation.” Tan said he “wake[s] up and go[es] to sleep thinking about AI.” He noted that Grab had previously paused normal operations for nine weeks to have all employees work on generative AI tools and experiments, calling it a “mindshift of being AI-first.” Tan also highlighted Grab’s use of a proprietary “hustle score” to extend loans to drivers who lack traditional credit scores, stating, “If they are really great at driving, they’re very safe… we give them a loan.” Tan also addressed Grab’s expansion, confirming the acquisition of Foodpanda Taiwan and expressing enthusiasm about serving Taiwanese communities. He said he would “love to see Grab as a Singapore-based company go beyond these 900 cities,” adding that the acquisition would add 21 new cities in Taiwan. Reflecting on the company’s origins, Tan recalled that Grab was founded as MyTeksi to address safety concerns in mobility, particularly for women and children, and described a culture of self-disruption, saying, “You got to disrupt before being disrupted.”
