At Keysight’s 2023 Investor Day, Kailash Narayanan, President of the Communications Solutions Group, stated that the group’s serviceable addressable market had grown to about $15 billion, a $2 billion increase since the prior investor day. He said the group had achieved a six percent revenue compound annual growth rate and increased operating margin by over 500 basis points since 2019. Narayanan described the group’s strategy as focusing on customer R&D workflows, capitalizing on technology trends such as 5G and 6G, and expanding its portfolio through organic investments and acquisitions. He noted that 5G continues to scale with a billion subscribers, but that challenges remain in network readiness, coverage, and quality, and that the industry needs to progress through standards releases 16 and 17 to drive hardware and software upgrades. In earlier appearances, Narayanan discussed 5G’s potential benefits and challenges. At Keysight World Taipei in 2018, he said that 5G could improve quality of service and allow operators to increase average revenue per user through new applications. He also noted that current networks use about two percent of the world’s generated power and that redesigning network architecture could yield cost and efficiency gains. In a 2018 interview about the UXM wireless test set, Narayanan, then an R&D manager, described the instrument as a new generation signaling test set designed for LTE-Advanced development, with features such as integrated fading and flexible RF testing to help engineers validate design readiness.
