“Between 2000 and 2007, before the recession, we were growing at a rate of 67% year on year, starting from a turnover of about 21 crores in 2000 to about 750 crores in 2017. Managing such rapid growth required developing suppliers, training sales and service engineers, and balancing all departments effectively.”
On , Anand Sundaresan, Senior Vice President at GREEN PLAINS INC, spoke about business growth during Wisdom Unplugged: Ft. Mr Anand Sundaresan on India Career Centre.
Anand Sundaresan, Senior Vice President at Green Plains, appeared on the podcast "Wisdom Unplugged" hosted by India Career Centre on January 17, 2025. During the conversation, Sundaresan discussed his nearly five decades of experience in the industrial and construction equipment industry, including his leadership roles at a German multinational company. He described his career journey, noting that he had good bosses who mentored him and that he was "very very lucky" in that regard. Sundaresan also shared his philosophy on leadership, stating that a CEO should be seen as the leader of Customers, Employees, and the Organization, and that leaders should not have vested interests and must work ethically. Sundaresan recounted specific business experiences, including managing rapid growth of 67% year-on-year between 2000 and 2007, and navigating financial pressure after the 2009 recession when turnover dropped to 500 crores with borrowing of 260 crores. He said the company reduced borrowing from 400 crores to 55 crores by 2015-16 through careful planning. He also discussed localization efforts, stating that the initial truck mixers had high import content and that through cost reduction, the same equipment now sells for about 8.25 lakhs compared to a previous minimum order of 12.5 lakhs. Sundaresan mentioned that after more than 41 years of service, he had planned to retire and pursue learning a musical instrument, but in 2019 or early 2020, "the Aman people" approached him about starting an operation in India, noting they did not want to start a business from scratch.
