In a 2016 appearance, Sam Zales, Chief Operating Officer and President of CarGurus, described the company as "changing the way consumers are shopping for and buying cars." Zales stated that CarGurus uses user-generated content to help consumers identify good dealers and proprietary technology to provide transparency on car pricing in local markets. He contrasted this with what he called "the old way of walking into a dealership without any information." Zales noted that at the time, CarGurus had 190 employees, having added 140 in the previous year, and was located in Kendall Square. He said the company operated "the number two most trafficked website for car shopping in the United States" and that ten thousand dealers used its program, including 500 from the local market. Zales expressed that the company was "thrilled to be part of the group."
