Randolph Marten, executive chairman of the board at Marten Transport, has described the company's motto "Expect the Best" as originating from his father, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Marten said the phrase is meant to communicate that employees and the company should hold each other to high standards. In a 2014 radio appearance, Marten discussed issues including marriage equality, voter ID laws, and mental health.
