On November 17, 2024, Diego Scotti, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Group at PayPal and a Global Citizen board member, helped open the Global Citizen NOW conference in Rio de Janeiro. During the event, Scotti and other speakers relaunched the "Power Our Planet" campaign, calling for countries to set targets to end deforestation this decade and mobilize $1 billion for land protection and reforestation. The campaign also demands debt relief for nations hit by climate disasters and new international taxes on polluters, with resources directed to communities on the front lines of climate impacts. Scotti and his co-presenters highlighted past successes, including a commitment from World Bank President Ajay Banga to allow countries to pause debt repayments during climate-induced emergencies. They stated that the campaign is a movement powered by millions of voices and will engage citizens, artists, leaders, and advocates to hold decision-makers accountable ahead of COP30.
