Brad Hoover, CEO of Grammarly, has described the company’s mission as “improving lives by improving communication.” In a 2022 interview, he stated that Grammarly’s value extends beyond writing mechanics to include “helping people with their personal and professional success, building their confidence, increasing belonging, and creating more connection.” He noted that a Harrisburg study cited by the company showed U.S. businesses losing up to $1.2 trillion annually due to ineffective communication, and that Grammarly had at least one user in more than two-thirds of the Forbes Global 2000, with large enterprise contracts increasing over 3x in the prior year. In a 2021 CNBC appearance, Hoover said the company had been “profitable and cash flow positive almost since day one” and that an IPO was “a possibility” but not a current focus, emphasizing Grammarly’s intent to remain independent. In a 2024 testimonial, Hoover endorsed Sean Rise and his team, stating they helped him with “marketing, sales, systems, and even the basics of business accounting.” He described Grammarly’s product-led growth and enterprise sales strategies in a 2022 SaaStr talk, saying the company relies on “user feedback and understanding” to identify new opportunities and that scaling a sales organization “takes resources, time, patience, and focus.” Hoover has also discussed the impact of remote work on communication, noting that “in the absence of in-person communication, we lose the ability to understand whether or not our message has landed.”
