About Richard Cook
In a 2013 interview, Richard Cook described a career of founding, building, and selling multiple businesses across different sectors. He stated that his first business was a property firm, which he built into what he called the largest independently owned estate agency in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire before selling it in the 1980s. Cook said he subsequently bought a niche publishing business, grew it into a large publishing company, and sold it; built up and sold several chains of bars and restaurants; and introduced check cashing to the UK, building what he described as the largest check cashing organization in the country before selling it to the company now known as Money Shop. He also said he built a finance business through franchising and sold it. Cook stated that he had since retired from full-time business and worked as a business mentor, company doctor, advisor, and non-executive director. He said he could bring an analytical and questioning mindset to businesses, citing his experience in management, raising funding, planning exits, and franchising.
