Mario Harik on autonomous trucking

From 44th Annual William A. Patterson Distinguished Transportation Lecture: Mario Harik · · Northwestern Engineering

“I think autonomy over time I mean this is where the world is going. I mean when you look today at u you know even the the the cab business you look at a company like who uh actually this year is the year and last year where started to be their expansion years effectively you're seeing it now in more and more cities where that's happening. However, people don't realize that the first time they actually had a car without a driver in it was in 2018 and actually Phoenix, Arizona. And it took effectively nearly eight years to get to a point where the tech was ready to deploy and kind of go from there. I think trucking in many ways will take longer than that. I I do think it's a longer horizon to be able to get there. Not because the technology is not there. The technology is almost there.”
