Thomas Gilbert Jr., who was convicted of murdering his father in 2015, gave his first television interview in a Court TV episode titled "The Golden Boy: Tommy Gilbert Jr. — Interview With A Killer," aired on May 17, 2026. During the interview, Gilbert stated, "I think that uh um the narrative misses all of the the facts of the case. It It pertains to my innocence," and said he wanted to "present my case, my uh basic defense, and uh give an outline of the uh um the uh the facts about my case." He described his childhood as "good" and "pretty wholesome uh, for the most part," and said of a reported story about his upbringing, "Um, I think that that story isn't true, Theo. The uh uh the kind of dream is is false." The interview's host, David Scott, noted that Gilbert's mother, Shelly Gilbert, declined to be interviewed but continues to advocate for her son to be moved from prison to a psychiatric hospital. Scott and others commented on Gilbert's apparent deterioration during his incarceration, with one associate stating, "I think he's probably considerably more sick than he was, you know, when the crime was committed."
