“I was listening to Steve Hassan's book Combating Mind Control and I was sobbing — I did not realize how much I had been holding on to the fact that even though I no longer believed in Scientology and saw L. Ron Hubbard as a con man, I was still holding on without realizing it.”
On , Douglas Kramer, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary at Cloudflare, spoke about deconversion during Doug Kramer | @DazedbutNotConfuzed on GrowingUpInScientology.
In a November 2022 interview, Douglas Kramer discussed his departure from the Church of Scientology and his subsequent work on his YouTube channel, Dazed but Not Confused. He stated that leaving Scientology "deprogrammed" him from what he described as mind control techniques used in the wider world, and he aims to cover those topics on his channel. Kramer said he read the confidential OT4 and OT5 materials and concluded they were "bodyfading," which he described as the point he was "definitely out." He also said that reading Steve Hassan's book *Combating Mind Control* caused him to sob, as he realized he was still holding onto aspects of Scientology despite no longer believing in it. Kramer said he has not had contact with his parents, who he described as still involved in Scientology, for seven to ten years, and does not believe they will leave the organization. He characterized the Church of Scientology as engaging in "criminal and Mafia and illegal activities," which he said are "part and parcel with the belief system." Kramer also noted that the Beverly Hills Playhouse, where he had been involved, was set up "exactly like a Scientology org," with an ethics officer and policies that encouraged reporting on one another.
