Lars Moravy, Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on February 4, 2026, regarding the future of autonomous vehicles. During the hearing, Moravy stated that Tesla believes autonomous vehicles are the future and present an opportunity to improve safety and accessibility. He also said that if a software error occurred in Tesla’s autonomous driving system, the company would take liability for that event. He noted that Tesla’s approach to in-house manufacturing of automation equipment is a “superpower” that allows faster iteration.
