“If you look at the terrestrial market for programmable logic, half of the components being sold today serve what I refer to as datapath—high-speed communications focused on bandwidth and faster communication.”
On , Esam Elashmawi, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer at LATTICE SEMICONDUCTOR CORP, spoke about market segmentation during Esam Elashmawi on HYBIZTV HD.
In a September 2014 appearance, Esam Elashmawi discussed Microsemi's focus on "powering a smart, secure and connected world." He described the company's SmartFusion product as "doing very well in the industry and beating our expectations." Elashmawi also introduced a new 65 nanometer embedded flash technology, developed in collaboration with UMC, which he said would be the first to market and offer twice the performance of previous offerings. He stated that the technology provides SEU immunity, reliability, low power, and security. Elashmawi explained that the company added high-speed interfaces and hard signal processing blocks to its products, which he said did not exist before, to expand the benefits of flash technology to the rest of the industry. He divided the terrestrial programmable logic market into two halves: "datapath," focused on high-speed communications and bandwidth, and "sense and control," focused on sensing and controlling functions. He noted that Microsemi's customizable SOC division was concentrating on the sense and control segment.
