From Pro Tip -3rd Axis Sight Leveling with Dan McCarthy · · Hoyt Archery
“I'm going to give you a tip on adjusting your first, second, third axis — it's not just important for tournament shooting but here at Reading we encounter several targets that are even more extreme for angles.”
On , Dan Mccarthy, Chief Information Officer at ENERGIZER HOLDINGS INC, spoke about sight leveling during Pro Tip -3rd Axis Sight Leveling with Dan McCarthy on Hoyt Archery.
In a 2012 video, Dan McCarthy, who is now the Chief Information Officer at Energizer Holdings, provided a tutorial on third-axis sight leveling for 3D target archery. McCarthy described shooting an Alpha Elite bow with a carbon blade and stated that he chose specific stabilizers because they were "dynamically created to reduce wind drift." He explained that adjusting the third axis is important for shooting at extreme angles, such as downhill or uphill, particularly in tournament settings or when hunting from an elevated stand. McCarthy offered a method for fine-tuning the sight without a specialized tool. He said that for a right-handed shooter, if an arrow hits to the right when shooting downhill, the scope should be brought towards the shooter and tightened in "very minute increments." Conversely, if the arrow hits to the left, the scope should be moved away. He noted that while this adjustment is less critical at close distances, it becomes important at ranges of 30 to 40 yards from an elevated position.
