Ron Butler, chairman and CEO of First Financial Bank in Abilene and chief administrative officer of First Financial Bankshares, discussed his background and role in a September 2023 interview. He stated that he was born in Lufkin, Texas, moved to Ranger as a child, and earned a finance degree from Texas Tech University. He said he moved back to Abilene 17 years ago as president of the Abilene bank and later took a role in the holding company. Butler described traveling to all of the company's regions and working with them "to get better every day," and said, "the heart of our people is to be better, to serve our customers and build our communities." In a 2015 interview, Butler addressed financial exploitation prevention. He said that "everyone is susceptible to financial exploitation and fraud" but that most attempts are directed at senior customers, calling it "heartbreaking" to see them lose their life savings. He stated that the bank trained employees to recognize possible fraud and conducted customer outreach, and that the bank was working with law enforcement through a financial exploitation prevention partnership.
