In a June 2022 interview, Brian Miller, a physicist and research coordinator at the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, argued that biological adaptation is driven by "pre-programmed responses" rather than random mutation. He stated that microorganisms create "mutational hot spots" in response to environmental stress, and described bacterial cooperation as an "engineered principle."
