“Jim, obviously, COVID — there was some help in the sense of people seeking treatment at that point in time.”
On , Simon Beard, MD for EMEA Region & Executive Vice President at Align Technology, Inc, spoke about COVID-19 during Align Technology CEO reports having 10 million orthodontics patients on CNBCTelevision.
In April 2021, Align Technology CEO Joe Hogan appeared on CNBC's "Mad Money" and discussed the company reaching 10 million orthodontic patients. Hogan stated that it took the company ten years to reach that milestone and that it would treat close to 2.5 million patients in 2021 alone. He noted that a patient in Brazil represented the company's global expansion. Hogan attributed some of the growth to people seeking treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic, but said the primary drivers were the size of the marketplace, aesthetic aspects, and digital orthodontics creating a "revolution" in people wanting to change their smiles. Hogan said the adult market has significant room for growth, and estimated that 500 million patients worldwide want to change their smile and have the financial means to do so, while 75% of the world's population have malocclusions.
