Lori Browning, Senior Vice President, Controller & Chief Accounting Officer at Grand Canyon Education, has been publicly speaking about the death of her son, Ethan, who she said died from fentanyl toxicity on December 6, 2022, at age 20. In an August 2025 podcast episode, Browning stated that her son "was poisoned" and "did not have any knowledge of taking what he had." She said she is working to "help with the stigma and shame" surrounding overdose deaths, adding that "people just think they were drug addicts that made a choice." Browning described becoming involved with the organization Lost Voices Fentanyl, attending a rally in Washington, D.C., which she said was "exactly what I needed — those are my people." She promoted an upcoming event called "Walk for Lives" scheduled for September 20, 2025, in Springfield, Tennessee, which she said is intended to have participants across the country walking on the same day to spread awareness. Browning noted that a speaker from the Cheatham County Sheriff's Department would tell a story about locating a seller. She said she has been working on the effort "a little bit every day for about a year."
