Jean-Pierre Aubin, co-chief executive officer at HCI, has spoken about the impact of the September 11, 2001 attacks on his company, then known as Cantor Fitzgerald, which lost 658 of its 900 New York employees. He stated that the firm survived due to its partnership structure, and that in the years following the attacks, employees were not paid and 25% of profits — approximately $200 million between 2001 and 2004 — were given to victims' families. He noted that BGC commemorates the date annually with a day of solidarity, donating 100% of that day's revenue to charities worldwide, generating between $12 and $13 million. Aubin has also commented on the financial industry, stating that the battle for the Paris financial center against London is lost, but that Paris retains strengths in clientele, banks, and insurance companies. He described the mergers and acquisitions market as "very lively" and expressed confidence in the equity market.
