Timothy Teter, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Nvidia, spoke at the Legal Aid Society’s ‘And Justice For All’ Lunch on November 1, 2024. During his keynote, Teter stated that Nvidia is “largely credited with inventing the platforms that enable today’s artificial intelligence (AI)” and that “most of the AI you read about today were trained on NVIDIA platforms.” He demonstrated AI’s capabilities by showing images generated from simple text prompts, including a scene of animals playing pool and a courtroom sketch based on a brief description. Teter noted that AI “will do only what we allow them to do” and can be restricted through “rails and train[ing]” to avoid harmful activities or offensive output. Teter also addressed the impact of AI on the legal profession, asserting that “AI isn’t going to take your job anytime soon; however, AI will change the way you practice, largely for the better.” He praised the work of legal aid attorneys, referencing his spouse’s career as a legal aid lawyer working with immigrants, and described her clients as “resilient, brave, and diligent.” Teter concluded by thanking supporters of legal aid, stating that “your support exemplifies what is great and noble about the law and fundamentally what makes our country so wonderful.”
