David Field, chairman, CEO, and president of Audacy (formerly Entercom), has discussed the company's positioning in the sports betting and digital audio markets. In a 2021 interview, Field described Entercom as one of the two largest radio broadcasting companies in the U.S., operating 235 stations and also being a major podcast publisher. He highlighted a six-year advertising deal with FanDuel, which he called the largest in radio industry history, and the acquisition of QL Gaming Group, operator of the BetQL gambling portal. Field stated that the company aims to participate in subscription and affiliate revenue streams from sports betting and that it is focused on providing content across broadcast, podcast, and digital platforms. In a 2014 keynote, Field argued that broadcast radio was thriving and "living in the Golden Age of radio," citing its large audience and resilience compared to other media. He said that radio's share of advertising dollars did not reflect its share of listening and that the medium was innovating through digital strategies and local activation. Field also noted that over 80% of Americans would be disappointed if their favorite radio station went away, and he expressed confidence in radio's continued relevance and growth.
