Michael Stubblefield, president and CEO of Avantor, has discussed the company’s role in enabling scientific innovation and its commitment to sustainability. He stated that Avantor’s sustainability efforts are integral to its business strategy and noted that the company achieved its 2025 greenhouse gas emission reduction targets two years ahead of schedule in 2023. Stubblefield also reflected on Avantor’s evolution five years after its NYSE listing, saying the company has advanced its strategy by expanding bioproduction capacities, building a digital platform, and extending innovation capabilities. He described Avantor as deeply embedded in customers’ innovation processes, providing products and services to labs in over 180 countries. Stubblefield has also addressed supply chain agility, emphasizing the value of a global network with regional proximity and the use of digital technologies such as machine learning and IoT sensors to accelerate research. In his capacity as a board-certified internist, Stubblefield has presented on radiation fibrosis syndrome in Hodgkin lymphoma survivors, describing the long-term effects of radiation therapy and advocating for specialized, multimodal rehabilitation approaches. He has also commented on Avantor’s role in scaling COVID-19 vaccine production, stating that the company supplied ultra-high purity materials for novel technologies like mRNA and that the supply chain was prepared for the unprecedented scale of distribution.
