“Over the last three years we have spent on all measures related to labor safety; we need to analyze everything and act on it.”
On , Alexei Mordashov, Russian businessman at Severstal, spoke about labor safety during Мордашов об авариях на шахтах on Финансовая независимость.
Alexey Mordashov, chairman of Severstal, discussed mine safety in October 2025, stating that the fatality rate at the Vorkuta mines fell from 1.2 to 0.6 deaths per million tons of coal mined since Severstal took ownership. He described this as "statistical progress" but noted that the company experienced two major accidents, at the Vorkutinskaya mine in 2013 and the Severnaya mine in 2025, and that 4 billion rubles had been spent on safety measures over the previous three years. In August 2025, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Mordashov said that Russia is now "self-sufficient" in most food categories and that the country's business class is "underestimated" by the media. He stated that his own success "depends on the success of the country as a whole" and that serious entrepreneurs are increasingly supporting social, cultural, and sports projects without expecting a financial return.
