About Stuart Subotnick

Former CEO of Metromedia · Independent

In a 2017 documentary portrait, electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick reflected on his career and legacy. Subotnick stated that "the young generations really do understand what I was doing and what I'm doing much more than the in fact I don't know even the Fine Art World cares about what I'm doing." He described his approach as "not to forget history but not drag the instruments of the history into the future so we can have new messages from New Media." Subotnick also noted that "people say I'm the father of this and that and in a way I am; it's like a father who has a child he didn't know he had." Subotnick, who was 84 at the time of filming, remarked that "I never would have thought that I would get to 84 years old; I thought 30 would be it." He described his creative path by saying "it was clear I want to go this way while everybody's going this way." The documentary, produced by Waveshaper Media, was described as an official bio-documentary featuring interviews with key figures from his past and present.
