In a September 2022 video for the Just Drive campaign, David Dauch, chairman and CEO of American Axle Manufacturing, urged drivers to avoid distractions while operating a vehicle. Dauch stated that 10 people are killed each day due to distracted driving, calling the statistic "a reckless act" that "needs to change and change now." He asked viewers to "put down your phones, stop texting, focus on the task of driving and arrive safely at your desired location." Dauch referenced the 2016 death of Mitchell Kiefer, the son of his friend Steve Kiefer, in a car accident caused by a distracted driver. He described the incident as having permanently altered Kiefer's life and family. Dauch encouraged individuals to make a personal commitment to "just drive" and to serve as role models for the campaign, stating, "Let's all collectively do our part to stop distracted driving and most importantly save lives."
