Shawn Henry on election security

From Election threats: The biggest concern is misinformation... leading up to the election: CrowdStrike · · Yahoo Finance

“the actual manipulation of votes themselves to have a real impact on the election is really a low risk according to a lot of people I've spoken with because of how dispersed our election system is there's not one single point of failure. I think the bigger concern is the concern of confusion or the concern of the integrity of the election where it's put into question.”

About Shawn Henry

Chief Security Officer · CrowdStrike

Shawn Henry, executive advisor to the founder and CEO of CrowdStrike, has continued to comment on the cyber threat landscape in 2025 and 2026. In a January 2026 podcast appearance, Henry stated that adversaries are "relentless and they're only getting smarter, faster, and more sophisticated." He noted that while infrastructure can be dismantled, the impact is now short-lived as adversaries quickly pivot to other setups. Henry also discussed the challenge of outdated laws, saying that laws written in 1986 have created "a lot of opportunity for misinterpretation" regarding what constitutes a cyber offense. He pointed to the Scattered Spider group, which he said operated with impunity for years, and noted that even when perpetrators are in domestic or Five Eyes countries, law enforcement faces difficulties related to the age of defendants and the ability to press charges. In a September 2025 interview, Henry described the current era as "the moment for the agentic SOC" and characterized agentic AI as "the next iteration" of innovation, similar to cloud and mobile before it. He said the impact on security in terms of "scope and scale" has been significant in a short time. Henry also argued that critical infrastructure protection extends beyond sectors like the electric power grid, stating that the financial services sector is critical infrastructure because "if the banks went down or one major bank went down, there'd be a cascading impact on the economy globally." He emphasized that because networks are interconnected, protecting major enterprises across various sectors inherently protects critical infrastructure.
