In a September 2021 appearance, D. Loper, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Hancock Whitney, discussed the bank's role in its communities. Loper stated that during the pandemic the bank processed over $2.4 billion in SBA loans to assist small businesses across its five-state footprint. He said that "economic development and banking being partners" are interdependent, and that the bank aims to "reinvest in the community" and "be a part of the community" rather than merely operating within it. Loper also commented on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, describing his daily commute to the bank's headquarters in Gulfport as passing through "some of the most beautiful scenery in the gulf south."
