John Furner, who became CEO of Walmart Inc. four months ago, gave his first in-depth interview since assuming the role. He described Walmart as "people led and tech powered," emphasizing that the company's technology is built to help associates serve customers faster. Furner noted that Walmart is offering AI certification programs to all associates and has built a "vibe coding platform" called Code Puppy, which allows employees to create their own AI products. He said that Sparky, Walmart's AI shopping assistant, is seeing its user base double each quarter and that customers using Sparky have a 35% higher basket size. Furner stated that Sparky is moving toward becoming a personal shopping agent that can add items to a cart and arrange delivery. Furner also discussed Walmart's pricing strategy, saying the company's "everyday low cost" model enables "everyday low prices" and helps customers trust that Walmart will be the lowest-cost option over time.
