“The hype is so far ahead of the reality. And a lot of it's simply financially driven, right?”
On , Paul Lippe, Cofounder at xMentium, spoke about AI during Navigating Growth in a Changing Environment | Paul Lippe on BeyondSaaS Ep 006 on Tethos: Growing Visionary & Mid-stage Tech Leaders.
In a March 2025 appearance on the podcast BeyondSaaS, Paul Lippe, CEO of xMentium, discussed changes in the SaaS industry and the role of generative AI. Lippe stated that for companies selling to large enterprises with IT, "almost everything that's become the norm around growing SaaS companies is going to change in the next 24 months," and suggested that those following a "2014 playbook" should revisit their assumptions. He also commented that "the hype is so far ahead of the reality" regarding GenAI, and that there are "no real meaningful success cases around Gen.AI other than software development and advanced help desk." Lippe expressed a view that GenAI may not eliminate knowledge worker jobs and could lead to reshoring of jobs that were offshored. Lippe described his company, xMentium, as offering "language intelligence" and noted that enterprises have formed GenAI task forces, often reporting to CIOs, which has made it easier for a small vendor like his to gain attention. He also mentioned that he had tracked his time in a spreadsheet for two weeks and identified several hours per week of tasks he could delegate. Lippe characterized the traditional SaaS playbook—"3-3-2-2 growth, sell the same thing over and over again, find your call point, got to be subscription, shouldn't be services"—as potentially strategically weakening for companies adopting a fully SaaSified GenAI approach.
