“The price of shotgun shells are not what they were. It's just strictly due to the cost increases that we have to take on. So, you know, that that that is going to cost the consumer more, one piece wad or a two-piece wad. So, two-piece wads are less expensive to make. So, you know, when you when you say, 'What do I get when I buy a Nitro 27 shell versus a Gun Club? harder shot, different wad, uh different hull. Um so all of those features and benefits cost more money. Now I can tell you Gun Clubs and and and Federal Top Gun and Shooting Dynamics from Fio certainly uh punch way above their weight as well. So um it's not like you're handicapping yourself much, but you get to, you know, the 27 yard line in the windy day, you may want that. you may want that one piece harder shot, one piece wad. It may it may be the edge of uh that you need to break a target and where you you win the Grand American or not.”
On , Jason Vanderbrink, Chief Executive Officer of Sporting Products Segment, Co-CEO & Director at VISTA OUTDOOR INC, spoke about pricing strategy during Ladies Clay Buzz Ep. 18 - All Things Ammo with Jason Vanderbrink - The Kinetic Group CEO on Ladies Clay Buzz.
Jason Vanderbrink, CEO of The Kinetic Group, appeared on the podcast *Ladies Clay Buzz* on February 1, 2026. He discussed the formation of The Kinetic Group, which he described as a newly formed company created in October 2024 after being acquired by CSG. Vanderbrink stated that the company was previously part of Vista Outdoor, which split into ammunition and outdoor products, and that The Kinetic Group is now the largest ammunition manufacturer in the world, with brands including Remington, Federal, CCI, Hevi-Shot, Speer, Estate, and Blazer. Vanderbrink addressed the cost of shotgun shells, explaining that higher-priced shells include features such as harder shot with more antimony, unibody hulls, brass heads, and one-piece wads, and that price increases are due to cost increases the company must take on. He noted that the ammunition and firearms industry sometimes limits the ability to donate money, but said the company supports local charities through initiatives like The Cure and Federal's red, white, and blue hull program, as well as military and law enforcement. Vanderbrink also mentioned that the company has introduced lines of ammunition for suppressors, which he said are popular following the repeal of the tax stamp requirement, and that suppressors pair best with subsonic rounds such as 300 Blackout for minimal noise.
