About Mitchell Elegbe
Mitchell Elegbe, founder and CEO of Interswitch, received a Special Achievement Award at the Silverbird Group's Man of the Year Awards 2025. In his acceptance speech, Elegbe said that 23 years ago a group of young Nigerians with no experience in banking or payments sought to address the problem of having to queue in banks to access their own money. He stated that the Nigerian payment system is now one of the most advanced in the world, where a transaction gives the recipient immediate value. Elegbe dedicated the award to Interswitch's 1,600 staff and thanked his wife, Mercy, for her support.
