“The values you can create by delivering additional bandwidth through services is hard to get the return on investment.”
On , James Wilson, Chief Revenue Officer at ADTRAN HOLDINGS INC, spoke about investment challenges during Jay Wilson, Adtran - Keynote speech - day two at Broadband World Forum 2014 on BroadbandWorldForum.
In a September 2015 keynote at the Broadband World Forum, James Wilson, Chief Revenue Officer at Adtran Holdings, discussed the challenges facing the telecommunications industry. He stated that "the pace of change and the pace of adoption or the consumption of technology is increasing at an unprecedented level," noting that internet traffic composition in Europe and North America showed a significant portion of consumption was real-time entertainment. Wilson argued that this growth "affects and strains our networks" and makes it difficult to achieve a return on investment for delivering additional bandwidth. Wilson advocated for a "user-defined experience" enabled by fiber, cloud control, virtualized network functions, and highly automated, programmable networks. He described the industry's need to use data and knowledge to create "a more deterministic solution" to problems, and concluded by saying, "the best way to predict the future is to invent it ourselves."
