In a 2018 conversation, Andrew Clyde, President and CEO of Murphy USA, discussed the company's history and its work with Stephens. He stated that Murphy USA is a gasoline and convenience retailer with close to 1,350 stores in 25 states. Clyde noted that the company spun off from a former fuel corporation in 2013 and at that time also took non-core assets, including a crude pipeline system. Clyde said that Murphy USA looked to Stephens to help sell the asset because of their experience with middle market companies. He described Stephens as "very helpful" in sorting through buyers to find those seriously interested. Clyde added that when Murphy USA trusts Stephens with a transaction, they also entrust them with their relationship, and that Stephens does "a great job" representing the company to third parties such as insurance companies, buy-side investors, or transaction partners.
