On , Shacara Delgado, Senior Vice President of Employment Law and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at ANYWHERE REAL ESTATE INC, spoke about housing discrimination during Fair Housing with Shacara Delgado on Anywhere.
Shacara Delgado, senior vice president of employment law and chief ethics & compliance officer at Anywhere Real Estate, discussed fair housing in a September 2023 interview. Delgado stated that fair housing laws can be difficult to interpret and that even well-intentioned people often inadvertently violate the law. She noted a long history of housing discrimination in the United States, including institutionalized redlining and unfair lending practices, and said that while progress has been made, discrimination still exists, most often based on disability and significantly against minority home buyers. Delgado explained that Anywhere Real Estate has roughly 50,000 agents affiliated with its owned brokerages and over 200,000 agents affiliated with its franchise brands. She said that by continuing to make fair housing training available to affiliated agents and to agents in the industry, the company helps reduce the number of agents likely to engage in discrimination. Delgado added that it is important for employees in marketing, product development, finance, and legal to understand fair housing, describing the company's goal as ensuring access to home ownership for everyone equally without bias, prejudice, or illegal discrimination.
