About Amanda Miller
Amanda Miller, Chief Communications Officer at Under Armour, has spoken publicly about her volunteer work with the Tanzanian Children's Fund in Karatu, Tanzania, during the summer of 2025. In a TEDx talk at Colby College, she described caring for a three-year-old orphan named Ebeneza and reflected on the challenges facing the region, noting that nearly half of Tanzania's 59 million people live below the poverty line and that three million children are orphans. Miller acknowledged her own "white savior complex" and said she learned that "no money translates to fewer opportunities to leave poverty." She stated, "No child should be born into a family home of violence or harm," and argued that "what we can control is offering more safe places for kids." In separate interviews, Miller discussed her approach to philanthropy and burnout. She described herself as a "support act" who has "the privilege of sitting alongside these people that really inspire me every day and being part of the journey that they're on." She said she learned that giving is "about people and relationships" and that she supports organizations by listening to their solutions rather than directing them. Addressing burnout among high achievers, Miller introduced a "seasonal framework" for rest and self-care, stating that "winter is a time to renew and rest, which many people ignore." She also said she refuses to feel guilty about "the privilege of time, freedom, and resources to think," adding that "everyone in my life benefits when I do."
