About Joel Friedman
Joel Friedman, Executive Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer & Treasurer at Saul Centers, was honored with the Advocacy of the Year Award at the DROR Dinner in 2016. In his acceptance speech, Friedman described his role as a community liaison and chaplain, stating that the organization "will do anything and everything to try to help someone who is in need." He recounted receiving a call from the organization about an inmate three hours before a circus event, noting that the group advocated for the inmate's needs and that he worked with a chaplain at the correctional facility to assist. Friedman credited his father, a law enforcement chaplain for 35 years, and other mentors for guiding him to "continue to do for others — to help people no matter what time it is." He thanked his wife and family for allowing him to serve the community, sometimes during work or late at night. Friedman emphasized that advocacy is "teamwork" and expressed gratitude to other organizations and volunteers who "don't get the credit they deserve" for their community work.
