Jaco van der Merwe, CEO of Astec Industries, presented a booth walkthrough at the World of Asphalt/AGG1 2025 trade show. He described the company’s aim to "take the dumb iron and make it smart with the use of technology" and highlighted several new products, including the A50 jaw crusher, the Easy Screed paver, and the Rotek 405 milling machine. Van der Merwe also discussed new digital and safety features, such as a fleet management display, camera technology to improve operator safety, and "smart X technology" for paving quality. He stated that when customers invest in equipment, they "buy the confidence that we will support them for the life of that equipment." In a separate 2019 address, van der Merwe congratulated employees at Roadtec for achieving 365 days without a recordable injury. He said that safety "starts with every one of us" and that he works safely "for my family's sake." He noted that customers "want to be associated with companies like ASTEC who weave safety as part of our core values."
