About Sharon Carmel

CEO & Founder · Beamr Imaging

Sharon Carmel, founder and CEO of Beamr Imaging, discussed the company's recent developments in video optimization and super-resolution technology in a March 2025 interview at Mile High Video 2025. Carmel stated that Beamr's content-adaptive bitrate (CABR) optimization is now running in real-time at 4K60 using NVIDIA GPUs, bringing about 40% added efficiency to video encoding. He also demonstrated a super-resolution process that increases video resolution by 4X, such as bringing 720p or 480p videos up to 1080p and 4K, running in parallel with real-time transcoding. Carmel noted that Beamr moved its technology from CPU to GPU, describing it as "a whole rewrite" that required "heavy lifting" on both NVIDIA's and Beamr's end. Regarding codec adoption, Carmel said Beamr has no plans to practice VVC or create its own encoder, stating that adoption of a new codec is "a big transitional process that can take around ten years." In a December 2024 interview with the Nasdaq Amplify Spotlight, Carmel described Beamr's core expertise as optimizing video to make it "smaller by 30 to 50%," which reduces costs associated with storage and network delivery. He said the company is "currently performing 10 times faster at one tenth of the cost than our previous solutions." Carmel also discussed Beamr's journey to an IPO on Nasdaq, advising entrepreneurs to "get good advice from your auditors, from your legal advisors, from your bankers" and noting that becoming a public company "is not rocket science, it is doable." He added that once Beamr had confidence in its collaboration with NVIDIA, the company sought additional capital through the Nasdaq listing to execute on its plan.
