Deion Sanders, head football coach at the University of Colorado, addressed his team's performance following a disappointing season. In a postgame press conference, Sanders stated that the team would "never be in this situation again" and that he was "not happy with nothing right now." He said he would make "severe changes" and that "if anybody's built to reconcile and to get this back on course, it's me." Sanders also discussed the importance of selecting players with the right mentality, saying "you don't develop mentality. You select mentality." Sanders has also spoken about his approach to recruiting and player conduct. He described the process of evaluating potential players as "like a dating game," noting that "just because a guy's a dog, that don't mean you bring him in" because "a dog can mess up your yard." He emphasized the importance of academics and classroom behavior, telling his team that wearing slides or hoodies in class, or sitting in the back of the classroom, would be "a problem." Sanders has also stated that he would not allow his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, to play for certain NFL teams, explaining "this is my profession — I know what's behind the curtain."
