About Souheil Badran

Senior EVP & COO · US Bancorp

In an August 2024 podcast appearance, Souheil Badran, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at U.S. Bank, discussed his personal background, technology trends, and leadership philosophy. Badran stated that he was born in Lebanon, lived in Kuwait and Malta, and moved to the U.S. in 1985 for college. He described the banking industry as having a "high dependency on technology," remarking, "I'm not sure whether we're still banks or technology companies." Badran noted that U.S. Bank is monitoring cryptocurrency but is "not necessarily funding or backing up right now" due to a lack of regulation. He also advised consumers to use credit monitoring services, lock credit bureau files, and change passwords regularly to reduce fraud risk. Badran outlined five leadership principles he focuses on: empathy and inclusion, continuous learning, empowerment, emotional intelligence, and integrity. He shared three personal life lessons: embrace change and be adaptable, value meaningful relationships, and practice gratitude. Regarding fraud, Badran observed that while digital methods are growing, "checks aren't dead" and traditional methods like mail theft remain issues. He cautioned against social media influencers promoting financial strategies, urging people to "get educated" rather than be influenced by "somebody on social media standing in front of a Ferrari."
