Barry McCarthy, President and CEO of Deluxe Corporation, participated in an interview with a freshman student from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Twin Cities as part of the school's Corporate Work Study Program. During the conversation, McCarthy discussed the importance of mentorship, stating that he learned from mentors in different roles throughout his career and that he learned as much about what he did not want to do as what he did. He advised learning from every interaction, including from bosses one may not like. McCarthy explained Deluxe's partnership with Cristo Rey by citing a personal commitment to giving back and the company's mission to help businesses succeed so communities thrive. He described the work study program as an "extraordinary opportunity" that gives students real work experience and a "one two combo" of college prep education and professional development, adding that he would have loved to have had such an opportunity himself.
