“We've just completed a merger last year. We took Chesapeake Energy and Southwestern Energy and created Expand. We're the largest natural gas producer in the United States. The demand growth for natural gas is really not debated and so we will be a big beneficiary of that.”
On , Domenic Dell'osso, President, Chief Executive Officer & Director at Expand Energy, spoke about merger during Fueling Market Dynamics with Expand Energy CEO Domenic Dell'Osso Jr on Semafor.
Domenic Dell'Osso, President and CEO of Expand Energy, discussed the company's position as the largest natural gas producer in the United States following the merger of Chesapeake Energy and Southwestern Energy. He stated that demand growth for natural gas is "not debated" and that the company will be a "big beneficiary" of that growth. Dell'Osso said that AI-driven electricity demand could result in an incremental 5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas demand before the end of the decade, while incremental LNG export capacity could add 15 billion cubic feet per day. Dell'Osso expressed skepticism about a near-term recession, saying that for a recession to harm U.S. natural gas demand it would need to be "a massive worldwide recession that pushes down demand for gas in a way that's pretty hard to fathom." He criticized the U.S. permitting environment, stating that "the permitting challenges of building anything in the United States over the last 20 years have just gotten worse and worse." Dell'Osso noted that 84% of incremental generation capacity under construction is renewable, but argued that renewable sources are not reliable for data center base load demand. He said he spoke with the Energy Secretary two weeks prior and that the secretary said his job is to "encourage growth in this country and infrastructure."
